Background

Mersing Inc is headed up by Shahril Ibrahim, a leading expert in media and technology  for entertainment. His technological background spans computer-generated imagery and effects for feature films, artificial intelligence, networks, and collaborative virtual environments.

He  worked for NASA Ames, for USC, and in the entertainment industry. At Digital F/X he designed systems for special effects that were the precursor to the AVID editing systems. He headed R&D at BOSS Films and developed the digital studio infrastructure and pioneered key techniques for the integration of live and synthetic imagery, real-time visualization, and motion capture for feature films. His film credits include IMAX Hawaii: Born in Paradise, IMAX Homeland, Silver Surfer, True Lies, Fantastiks, Desperate Measures, Outbreak, Drop Zone, Turbulence, Multiplicity, Air Force One, and Species.

Earlier he founded Media SuperCollider Inc. in 1998 with venture backing  and the company went on to develop online multi-user  games. At Media SuperCollider in 2000, he designed and championed 'OnChat', a pioneering  Avatar-based virtual world that registered more than one million members and broke records by logging more than 30 million minutes of use per month. The company also designed the first multi-player Internet fighting game developed in the Mortal Kombat genre, Fighting Verge and BattleTank a multi-player tank game for the Internet.

He has worked on multimedia education including the Annenberg foundation's media literacy initiative. Socially aware of the power to bring economic wealth through creativity, Ibrahim being a Malaysian has been invited to join the prestigious Malaysian governmental advisory board for  government of Penang and the Ministry of Science to develop the creative industries.

Recently he developed the blueprint to catalyze a creative cluster for the newly formed Iskandar region in Malaysia. Working for Khazanah, a leading soverign fund  he  co-developed the master guideline for investments in the creative industries of Malaysia.

His latest coup was negotiating to bring Rhythm & Hues, one of the leading animation and visual effects companies of the world to locate in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. Rhythm & Hues was the creative force in movies such as Narnia, Fast and Furious 4, Alvin and the Chipmunks and many others.
